Age Advantage Bridge: Building an Age-Inclusive Workplace

The Age Advantage Bridge is a comprehensive training program for businesses and institutions focused on identifying, addressing, and eliminating age discrimination in the workplace. The program empowers organizations to create a culture that values and supports employees of all ages.

Consists of three structured components:

1. Perspective Spectrum Analysis

The program begins with the Perspective Spectrum Analysis, an assessment designed to uncover existing age-related biases, atitudes, and behaviors within the organization. This phase includes:

Employee Surveys and Assessments: Employees complete a survey assessing beliefs, attitudes, and experiences across five key areas: Perceptions and Interpersonal Dynamics, Collective Affinity for Older People, Personal Aging, Experiences with Age Discrimination, and Workplace Culture.

Cultural Evaluation: An in-depth evaluation of responses identifies organizational attitudes, departmental dynamics, and potential sources of age bias. This information provides a clear view of the existing culture and highlights areas needing improvement.

The results guide the creation of a customized workshop that addresses the specific needs and goals of the organization.

2. Responsive Awareness Workshop

Based on the findings from the Perspective Spectrum Analysis, a tailored Responsive Awareness Workshop is developed to foster age inclusivity across the organization. Key features of the workshop include:

Customized Learning Experiences: The workshop addresses specific age-related biases and stereotypes unique to the organization. This tailored approach ensures relevance to different departments and functions.

Interactive Learning and Mentorship: Through educational sessions, mentorship, and discussion, employees are equipped to recognize and overcome biases. They learn how to integrate inclusive practices into their daily responsibilities and team dynamics.

Department-Specific Focus: Each department receives guidance relevant to its discipline, ensuring that inclusivity principles are practical and applicable in every area of the organization.

At the end of the workshop, participants complete a knowledge check to assess their understanding and interpretation of information provided and age inclusivity concepts.

3. Evolvability Plan

The final phase is the Evolvability Plan, which establishes actionable steps for maintaining and strengthening an age-inclusive culture. This phase includes:

Analysis and Reporting: The program team analyzes knowledge check results, workshop feedback, and the initial Perspective Spectrum Analysis to identify any patterns, remaining biases, or broader cultural issues.

Strategic Implementation Plan: If needed, an age inclusivity action plan is developed in partnership with management. This plan includes updates to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, aligned with the organization’s unique needs and priorities.

Ongoing Support: Strategy implementation support is available, offering tools and guidance for sustaining progress toward a more age-inclusive workplace.

At the end of the workshop, participants complete a knowledge check to assess their understanding and interpretation of information provided and age inclusivity concepts.
